GLENDALE, Ariz. – After putting up record-setting numbers in Monday's season opener, the No. 13 College of Idaho softball team dropped a twinbill to host Arizona Christian on Tuesday, 6-0 and 6-2.
The Firestorm held the Yotes, who fall to 2-2 on the season, were limited to three singles in game one and six hits in game two.
Arizona Christian had 10 hits in game one and six in game to open the season with a pair of wins over the nationally-ranked Yotes.
Game one saw Arizona Christian plate three runs in the first inning on four hits on its way to the 6-0 shutout win. Jyden Miles had three hits and two runs scored and Abbi Covalt added two hits to the attack. Starting pitcher Samantha Smith struck out nine and walked three in the complete game victory.
ACU added to its lead in the third on a bases loaded walk and a two-RBI single in the fifth for the final margin.
Game two saw ACU start the game with a 2-0 lead after plating a pair of runs in the first inning. The Yotes got its first run of the day when
Lolo Walker hit her fourth home run of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second inning. Then, College of Idaho tied it in the third after
Lexi Navarrete singled up the middle,
Kaylee MacDannald hit a double to the gap in left-center field to tie the game at 2.
Arizona Christian came back with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth. Covalt had two more hits to lead the six-hit attack for the Firestorm. Reliever Trinity Lawson came into the contest in the fourth inning and allowed just one hit over 2.1 innings of work for the win. Smith pitched the final 1.2 innings for the save.
The next contest for the Yotes is a doubleheader on Thursday at noon against OUAZ.
