GLENDALE, Ariz. – No. 13 College of Idaho softball swept a doubleheader against OUAZ, winning 9-1 (game 1) and 9-5 (game 2) on Thursday.
Game one saw the visiting Yotes pound out a season-high 14 hits as
Lindsey Jones tying a career-high with three to lead the offensive onslaught.
Lexi Navarrete and
Hannah Mikel each had two hits.
Lolo Walker and Mikel were responsible for two runs each in addition Navarrete and Ashlyn Nixon each drove in a pair for the winning effort. Starting pitcher
Annie Polster went the distance and struck out seven for the win.
College of Idaho plated two runs in the first for the early lead and added to its lead with a three-run third and fourth inning, plus Mikel hit a solo home run in the seventh on its way to a 9-1 win. Nixon had a two-RBI double in the third, plus Navarrete had a two-run home run in the fourth.
The nightcap saw College of Idaho add to a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning when they plated five as they sent ten batters to bat in the fourth en route to a 9-5 win. The bats remained alive as they had 15 hits in the contest after recording 14 hits in game one of the doubleheader. Four-different Yotes had two hits, plus
Kaylee MacDannald had three to lead the offense. One of the four was
Madelyn Powell, who had three RBI, plus Walker and MacDannald each drove in a pair. Walker and MacDannald also hit home runs in the win. The circle saw another complete game for College of Idaho as
Grace Neer went the distance and struck out six for her first win of the season.
Next, College of Idaho (4-2) will have a pair of neutral-site games against Vanguard on Friday at 10 a.m. and ERAU at noon.
