Box Score MESA, Ariz. - The College of Idaho baseball team dropped the finale of the season opening series against Park-Gilbert, falling to the Buccaneers by a score of 21-3.
The Yotes (2-1) were led by a two hit performance from
Darren Smith, with one of those hits being a double. The Buccaneers saw multi-hit performances from seven different players, led by three hit performances from Brendan Blakeman and Rees Hall.
The Yotes offense got started early, scoring runs in each of the first three innings. In the first inning,
Chandler Stocking drove in a run on a single which scored
Alex McFarland-Smith. In the second inning,
Dillon Danner grounded into a double play, but a run would come in to score making the game 2-0 in favor of the Yotes. In the third,
Kris Kirkpatrick would reach on an error and advance to second. Following a second error on the play, Kirkpatrick would come in to score which would make the game 3-2.
From there, it was all Bucs, as Park Gilbert would score the next 19 unanswered runs. Most of the damage would come in the eighth inning when the Bucs would add on 11 runs, capped off by an Andrew Allanson home run.
The Yotes will look to bounce back with a doubleheader on Wednesday against Ottawa (Ariz.), with first pitch set for 11 a.m.
