Yotes Fall Just Short of CCC Title

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The College of Idaho softball team fell just short in its quest for the CCC crown, dropping both contests on Sunday to No. 1 Oregon Tech by scores of 5-4 and 8-2.

Game One

The marathon game one saw both teams combine for nine runs over the course of a three-hour, 13 inning contest. The Yotes used two-hit performances by Kaylee MacDannald and Madelyn Powell to spark their offense. The Yotes struck early, driving in a run in the bottom of the first inning, as they were the designated home team. Tanner Higgins was able to reach on a fielder's choice which scored Haley Loffer.

The Owls were able to drive home four unanswered runs through the next few innings, capping off their run on a throwing error in the fifth inning. The Yotes answered as Haley Loffer drew a bases loaded walk, as the squad was able to get to within two. Lexi Navarrete reached on a fielder's choice, as two runs were able to score to tie the game. However, a leadoff home run by OIT in the top of the 13th inning was enough to seal the deal, capping off the Owls game one victory.

Mckenzie Staub was tabbed with the win, while Hannah McNerney pitched just over 10 innings in the game, earning the loss.

Game Two

The Yotes were only able to muster three hits in game two, coming from Loffer, Higgins, and Kaily Christensen. The Owls jumped out of the gates hot, recording five runs throughout the first three innings. Lexi Klum got the offense started for OIT, singling which drove in Jayce Seavert. The Owl offensive outburst was capped off by a sac fly in the fourth inning, as the Owls jumped out to a six run lead.

Haley Loffer was able to drive in both runs for the Yotes on offense, blasting a home run in the fifth inning, which scored MacDannald. The owls would answer with two of their own in the fifth, as Staub drove in a run on a single, and Puakea Milbourne drove in Staub on a double.

Staub earned her third win of the day, pitching all seven innings and striking out four. Katelyn Wilfert was tabbed with the loss, pitching just under two innings and allowing four runs.

The Yotes will find out their postseason opponent and location on Tuesday.
