KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The College of Idaho's run in the CCC tournament came to a close on Sunday, dropping both contests, losing the first to UBC by a score of 5-1, and the second to host Oregon Tech by a score of 9-0.
Game One
The Yote offense saw a multi-hit performance from the program's all-time leader,
Jonah Hultberg. The first run of the game went the Yotes way, as
Kris Kirkpatrick singled to right center field and
Alex McFarland-Smith came around to score. The Thunderbirds would answer as Trent Lenihan would homer to left field in the bottom of the fourth.
The 'Birds would tack on one more in the bottom of the sixth, as Russel Young singled to right field which scored Brandon Hupe. Hupe would follow that up with a three-run shot out to left center field, as the Birds were able to tack add on to their lead, as the game would end in a 5-1 result.
Nick Eliason was tabbed with the loss, pitching seven innings, striking out six batters while allowing five runs. The CCC Pitcher of the Year in Sean Heppner earned the win, pitching six innings while only allowing one run and striking out five.
Game Two
Game two saw hits come from all parts of the lineup, as a majority of the lineup recorded a hit in the contest. The offense, however, saw the Oregon Tech Owls race out to a hot start and didn't look back. Julien Jones got the scoring started for the Owls, registering an RBI base knock in the first inning. That was followed up by a single through the right side later in the inning as the Owls jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning played.
In the sixth inning, Alonzo Vergara homered to increase the Owl lead, and that was followed up by a a two-RBI triple by Korrey Siracusa. Jones would then follow up his earlier RBI by recording a home run late in the game.
Kirby Robertson was tabbed with the loss, pitching 5.1 innings on the mound and striking out a pair of Oregon Tech batters. Patrick Arman earned the win for the Owls, pitching eight innings and not allowing a run.
