Yotes Advance to CCC Title Game Following Upset of No. 1 Oregon Tech

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The College of Idaho's quest for the CCC championship continued on Saturday, with top-ranked Oregon Tech standing in their way. The Yotes were able to pull off the upset, winning by a score of 5-2.

The Yotes only recorded five hits in the game, four of which came from Haley Loffer and Madelyn Powell. The freshman Powell continued her reign of dominance in the tournament, recording yet another pair of home runs, this time against the top-ranked Owls.

The Yotes were able to do a bulk of their damage in the top of the first inning, driving in four of their five runs. The first run of the game came on a stolen base from Haley Loffer, stealing home to score. Following a throwing error, Powell stepped up to the plate as the Yotes were already up by two at that point. Powell drove a ball to the deepest part of the park, smashing a home run to center field as the Yotes jumped out to a four run lead early. Powell would proceed to hit her second long ball of the game, this one coming in the fourth inning, as the Yotes took a five run lead.

Grad student Katelyn Wilfert held the Owl offense in check for a majority of the contest, as OIT was finally able to get into the scoring column in the fifth inning. Jaycee Seavert reached on a fielder's choice, however a throwing error was able to drive across a run. A second fielder's choice drove in the final Tech run of the contest.

Wilfert saw her record improve to 20-3 on the year, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out one. Mckenzie Staub was tabbed with the loss, only recording one out in the game while giving up four runs.

The championship game will take place on Sunday in Klamath Falls, with a second game to follow should the Yotes drop the first contest.
