CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho started its final home weekend of the season, sweeping a doubleheader from Bushnell, 11-1 (seven innings) and 5-2 on Saturday.
The Yotes (26-15, 10-8 CCC) utilized timely hitting in game one and back-to-back home runs in game two to complement solid pitching from
Nick Eliason and
Kirby Robertson in the sweep.
The Beacons (21-21, 9-9 CCC) had five hits from five-different players in game one including Jordan Wilson, who had two more hits and a RBI in the nightcap.
College of Idaho scored nine of its 11 runs in the game one victory with two outs. Tristan Garland and Alex McFarland each had three hits to lead a 16-hit attack. Four more Yotes –
Jonah Hultberg,
Ben Gaff,
Kirby Robertson and
Dillon Danner – added two more hits. The offensive onslaught gave support to
Nick Eliason, who went the distance and struck out 10 Beacons to raise his record to 6-1 for his third game with double-digit strikeouts.
Robertson put College of Idaho on the scoreboard with a two out, two-RBI single in the fourth to end the scoreless contest. Bushnell plated its only run in the top of fifth and kept from drawing any closer by Eliason, who got two more strikeouts to end the threat. In its half of the fifth, a two-run home run by
Skyler Sadora, a two-RBI single by Robertson and a RBI single stretched the lead to 7-1. College of Idaho added two each in the sixth and seventh for the 11-1, seven inning victory in game one.
Game two saw College of Idaho break a 1-1 tie in the third inning with four runs on back-to-back home runs. Sadora hit his second home run of the doubleheader, a three-run blast to put the host Yotes ahead 4-1. Next batter, Alex McFarland followed it up for a 5-1 lead in favor of the home team.
With a 5-1 lead,
Kirby Robertson held the Beacons at bay on his way to a career-high nine strikeouts for the win.
Ben Gaff pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the doubleheader sweep.
