No. 8 College of Idaho Sweeps Doubleheader from Bushnell to Begin Series

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A two-run home run by Madelyn Powell propelled No. 8 College of Idaho to a 2-0 win in game one over host Bushnell University on Friday. The Yotes followed that up with a 9-0, six-inning win in game two of the doubleheader.

Powell ended a scoreless contest with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. The two-run shot brought in Hattie Hruza, who picked up a two out walk off Liz Hiller. The two runs made a winner out of C of I starter, Katelyn Wilfert, who raised her record to 15-3 with the shutout.

The nightcap saw College of Idaho take advantage of five errors by the Beacons and being limited to just four hits. A three-run first inning gave the visitors an early lead. The lone hit in the inning was a RBI triple by Tanner Higgins. A walk with the bases loaded to starting pitcher Hannah McNerney extended the lead to 4-0. C of I added to its lead with two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth for the final margin.

Kaily Christensen accounted for two of the four hits and McNerney allowed three hits in the shutout to improve her record to 19-2.

The two teams will wrap up the weekend series on Saturday with a doubleheader at noon (MT)/11 a.m. in Springfield, Ore.
