MCMINNVILLE, Ore. -
Skyler Sadora and
Jake Denison both had big games on Saturday, each driving in three RBIs as the College of Idaho baseball team cruised to a 12-4 win over Linfield to open the weekend.
The beginning of the three game weekend series was delayed by a day due to weather, but that didn't affect the Yote offense, putting up 12 runs on the Wildcats. Sadora led the squad with three hits on the day, while
Jonah Hultberg,
Kris Kirkpatrick, and
Jake Denison each contributed two hits to power the bats. The first runs of the game came in the first inning when
Alex McFarland-Smith drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, while
Ben Gaff added a base knock to center field which scored
Jonah Hultberg.
The offense would strike again in the fourth, as Denison would tally two of his three RBIs on the day on a double to left center field, scoring Kirkpatrick and
Ben Gaff. In the fifth, Sadora drove in a run on a single, while
Kris Kirkpatrick singled to drive in a pair. Following Kirkpatrick's single, Denison drove in his third RBI of the game to make the score 8-2 in favor of the Yotes heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Sadora would later homer in the sixth inning, which was his second RBI of the game.
Linfield would respond with a home run of their own in the seventh, but it was all Yotes from there. In the eighth, Hultberg recorded a triple to drive in
Tristen Garland. Sadora would round out his three RBI performance with a double to right field, and
Ben Gaff drove in another on a sacrifice fly, as the game would end 12-4 in favor of the Yotes.
Dawson Cummins made his Yotes debut on the mound, pitching one inning while striking out two Wildcat batters.
Kirby Robertson earned the win in contest, improving his record to 4-2, while pitching just under five innings while only allowing one run. John Over was tabbed with the game one loss, pitching four innings and allowing four runs.
The Yotes and Wildcats return to the diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader to round out the weekend.
