No. 12 Yotes Sweep Corban for Second-Straight Day

No. 12 College of Idaho softball completed its second-straight series sweep with a 9-1 and 8-0 doubleheader sweep of Corban on Saturday.

College of Idaho (24-2, 10-2 CCC), who has won its last nine in a row, overcame an early 1-0 deficit in game one to score nine unanswered runs, including a seven-run fifth to end the game. Kaily Christensen and Lexi Navarrete each had two hits, plus Brinley Iverson and Hattie Hruza had three and two RBI, respectively. Starting pitcher Hannah McNerney went the distance, allowing just five hits and striking out nine to raise her record to 11-1.

The Yotes tied the game at 1 in the third and took its first lead on the day on a RBI double by Lena Zahniser in the fourth inning to score Navarrete, who picked up a two-out single. Then, College of Idaho plated seven runs on five hits on its way to the victory.

The second game saw College of Idaho end a scoreless game, scoring eight runs on six hits in the third inning on its way to the victory. Seven-different Yotes had a hit in the win and Chloe Flerchinger and Hruza had three and two RBI, respectively. In the circle for C of I, Annie Polster went the distance for her first win on the season. In the shutout, she allowed seven hits to the Warriors.

With the game scoreless in the third, 15 Yotes came to bat as they plated eight runs on six hits. One of the six hits was a two-RBI triple by Hruza and another came in on a two-RBI double by Flerchinger for the Yotes.

The Warriors stranded four base runners in the final two innings as the Yotes completed the weekend sweep.

Next, College of Idaho will travel to Portland to face Warner Pacific, the series gets underway on Friday, Mar. 24 with a twinbill at 1 p.m. (PST)/2 p.m. (MT).
