CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 12 College of Idaho softball team extended its winning streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep of Corban, 11-0 (five innings) and 6-1 on Saturday in Symms Field.
College of Idaho (22-2, 9-2 CCC) scored a run each in the first two innings before scoring six in the third and three more in the fourth for the 11-0 win in game one.
Hattie Hruza had two of the eight hits and
Kaylee MacDannald had a bases clearing, three-RBI triple in the third on her way to four RBI to lead the offense.
With just two hits and two runs through the first two innings, the offense came alive in the third with five hits including the three-RBI triple by MacDannald that blew the game wide open. The fourth saw a RBI single by
Hannah Mikel and College of Idaho take advantage of an error by the Warriors for the final margin.
The offense was ample support for
Katelyn Wilfert, who ran her record to 11-1 with the shutout as she allowed just three hits in the win.
Game two saw College of Idaho break a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth and three in the sixth on its way to a 6-1 win. The big blows in the game were a pair of solo home runs by graduate student
Tanner Higgins in the first and the sixth, plus a two-RBI single by
Brinley Iverson and a RBI single by
Lexi Navarrete.
Starting pitching was dominant again as
Hannah McNerney picked up her 10
th win on the season, allowing just four hits and striking out nine Warriors.
The two teams will wrap up the series on Saturday with a doubleheader at 11 a.m. at Symms Field.
