CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho baseball team has now won their last five in a row after completing the weekend sweep over Eastern Oregon, taking both games on Sunday by scores of 6-3 and 11-3.
Game One
Three-hit performances from
Jonah Hultberg and
Matthew Iwamizu, along with a pair from
Dillon Danner led the way for the Yotes offense. The Mountaineers were on the board first, jumping out to a quick three-run lead, including a pair of runs in the first inning capped off with a Mario Landeros single to center field.
In hte second, Youhyeon Choi hit a double to left field, scoring Rogelio Gonzalez, increasing the lead to three. In the bottom of the third,
Skyler Sadora drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the fifth, battling the wind,
Jonah Hultberg was able to muscle a home run out to center field, making it a 3-2 game.Â
The bulk of the offense came in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Yotes scored four times in the inning, capped off with an Iwamizu single to center field.
Kirby Robertson improved his record to 2-1 on the year, nearly going six innings in relief while only allowing two hits and striking four. Jaydon Yancey's record dropped to 0-1, going two innings and allowing four earned runs.
Game Two
The bats were finally able to come alive early in the game for the College of Idaho, scoring four runs in the first inning. In the win,
Jonah Hultberg would go 4-4, Kris Kirpatrick would record three hits, and
Jordan Kelly along with
Skyler Sadora recorded a pair of hits.
The first inning saw
Tristen Garland score on a passed ball, followed by a
Jordan Kelly three-run shot to left field which scored Kirkpatrick and
Jonah Hultberg. Eastern Oregon would answer back over the next two innings on a pair of sacrifice flies from Garret Kollar and Justin Frederick. Kollar would go on to hit a home run in the seventh inning.
The fifth inning saw the Yotes plate three more runs, coming from a Hultberg single, a Sadora double, and a Kirkpatrick triple as they were able to take a 7-2 lead heading into the final frames. In the eighth, Kirkpatrick would drive in two more on a single to right field, scoring Sadora and Hultberg.
Ben Gaff earned his first victory of the season, going five and a third innings while only allowing three hits and striking out three. Slayder Watterson was tabbed with the loss, his record dropping to 0-3. Watterson would pitch four innings while allowing seven runs and striking out five Yote batters.
The Yotes will be back in action at Wolfe Field next week as the University of British Columbia comes to Caldwell, with games taking place Friday through Sunday.
