CALDWELL, Idaho - The bats were on full display for the College of Idaho offense, leading to a 15-4 victory at Wolfe Field on Wednesday.
Five different Yotes had a multi-hit performance, led by the leadoff man
Tristen Garland who went 3-4. Others with multiple hits included
Skyler Sadora,
Alex McFarland-Smith,
Kirby Robertson, and
Matthew Iwamizu. Those five players were able to combine for 11 of the team's 15 hits in the game.
The first inning saw the Yotes strike for a bulk of their offense, tallying 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Alex McFarland-Smith recorded multiple RBI's in the inning on a pair of hits, while
Jonah Hultberg drove in a pair of runs as the Yotes were able to bring 16 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first. Seven different Yotes recorded a hit in the frame, including four straight batters in the middle part of the lineup.
The Mountaineers were able to answer back with three runs of their own in the top half of the second, two of which came on a Youhyeon Choi triple to center field. Eastern Oregon would not score again until the sixth inning, when Noah Zohn hit a sacrifice fly, driving in Garret Kollar.
Luke Brewer increased his record to 2-1 on the season, going three innings in relief while only allowing one hit and striking out five.
Nick Eliason had a strong game on the mound in relief for the Yotes, managing to strike out six batters in his two innings of work. Brock Cordes had his record drop to 0-1, only pitching two-thirds of an inning while allowing seven earned runs and walking three batters.
The Yotes and Mountaineers will face off in a four game series taking place in Caldwell starting next week.
