LINCOLN, Calif. - The 13th-ranked College of Idaho softball team continues their winning ways, sweeping Friday's doubleheader against Menlo, and 21st-ranked Jessup.
GAME 1
Game one saw the Oaks of Menlo strike early, scoring on a triple down the left field line which drove in two runs in the first inning. It was all Yotes after that.
Haley Loffer inched closer to Yotes history, adding another home run, which was her second of the season. With the home run, Loffer's home run count stands at 23, with the current school record being 24.
In the second inning,
Makenna Luke doubled to left center field which scored
Lexi Navarrete. Following Luke's double,
Madelyn Powell drove in two runs on a single, making it a 5-2 game at the end of the second. In the third inning, Luke singled, driving in another run, while
Kaylee MacDannald singled driving in a run.
Hattie Hruza added a triple in the in the fourth which drove in a run, and the final two runs came courtesy of
Kaily Christensen and Powell. Grad student
Katelyn Wilfert was tabbed with the win, her fourth of the season, as she struck out six batters in her five innings of work. The game would end as an 10-2 Yotes win in five innings.
GAME 2
Game two was a battle between the Yotes and the 21st-ranked Jessup Warriors.The Warriors tallied the first run of the game in the fourth inning on a single, which was the only run of the contest until the top of the sixth inning. That's when
Kaily Christensen reached on a fielders choice, which scored
Haley Loffer.
The eighth inning saw the Yotes erupt for five runs, starting with a throwing error to second base which scored Loffer from third.
Tanner Higgins followed it up wiht a triple to left field, scoring MacDannald from second base.
Hattie Hruza followed up with an RBI single of her own which Higgins scored on. Hruza would later score on a throwing error. The final Yote run of the game came on a
Makenna Luke single which scored Christensen.
Hannah McNerney earned her fourth win of the campaign, going the full eight innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out four batters on 115 pitches.
The Yotes will be back in action against Menlo and Jessup for another doubleheader tomorrow.
