WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Three drives ended inside the five-yard line to spoil a record-setting season for the College of Idaho football team who dropped a 28-21 decision to host No. 3 Keiser on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the loss, College of Idaho (10-3) reached the semifinals of NAIA Championship series for the first time in program history. Led by quarterback
Andy Peters, the signal caller completed 23 of 43 passes for 284 yards and two touchdown passes to
John Kreps. He found eight-different receivers to go along with 33 yards on the ground to lead C of I.
Keiser (11-3) advances to the championship game for a second-straight year in a rematch of last year against Northwestern (Iowa). The Seahawks recorded 344 yards in the win with Jaden Meizinger scoring two touchdowns on 86 yards by way of 20 carries. Quarterback Bryce Veasley completed just nine of 33 passes for 163 yards.
Down seven, with 2:11 left in the game, Peters began the drive with a nine-yard run. Then, he completed a 25-yard pass to his favorite target on Saturday,
John Kreps to move the ball down to the Keiser 7. Then, on first down he found
Ben Hruby for a four-yard reception that moved it to the Keiser 3. With 1:02 left and after a Yotes timeout as well as three downs left, College of Idaho was able to get the game-tying touchdown. The season ended when a pass to athletic tight end
Torey Watkins was broken up by the Seahawks' Louis Lubin III on fourth down.
Kreps finished the game with eight catches and 95 yards to go along with two touchdown receptions.
Jon Schofield threw a touchdown pass on third and goal to Hruby to set the stage for the final drive.
Tanner Steele led the Yotes with nine tackles and
Chase Brown added seven to go along with a fumble recovery in the defeat.
