Yotes Advance to CCC Semifinals Following Win Over Evergreen

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The College of Idaho men's soccer team earned their place in the CCC Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, following a win over The Evergreen State College on Monday, winning by a score of 2-0.

The first half was calm for both teams, as neither team was able to score, and the Yotes held a slight edge in shots in the opening frame, outshooting the Geoducks by a 7-4 tally.

The scoring for the Yotes started in the 61st minute, when freshman Hugo Guevara was able to put the ball past the Evergreen keeper, making it 1-0 in favor of the College of Idaho. Just eight minutes later, Pol Romero was able to find the team's top goal scorer, Jorge Fernandez, as he was able to score his first goal of the postseason, making it 2-0 Yotes, which would hold to be the final score.

The Yotes would end the game outshooting the Geoducks by a final tally of 19-5, while maintaining a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Tom Baynard-Smith recorded another clean sheet this season, recording four saves in the win.

Up next, the Yotes will play Warner Pacific in the CCC Semifinals. The Yotes fell to WPU in the final game of the regular season.
