CALDWELL, Idaho - For the first time in program history, the 15th-ranked College of Idaho women's soccer team are the CCC Tournament champions and will host an NAIA Tournament game, set to take place on Saturday against Keiser at Simplot Stadium.
This marks the third straight season that the Yotes and the Seahawks have matched up in the NAIA postseason, with the Seahawks coming out on top in the previous two matchups. However, this season the team stats have switched, as the Yotes enter with a record of 18-1-2 where the Seahawks enter with a record of 12-6-2. Last year when the two teams met, Keiser entered the game with an undefeated record.Â
This season, the Yotes have been absolutely dominant on offense, outscoring opponents 73-9, where the Seahawks are outscoring opponents 45-19. This Yotes team features multiple players that didn't see action in last year's matchup, including sophomore standouts
Natasja Davis and
Eden Makaafi. Davis had a phenomenal start to her freshman campaign a year ago before missing the season due to injury, and Makaafi joined the Yotes this past offseason and was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Year. The Yotes also added CCC Newcomer of the Year
Alexis Haws last offseason who has been remarkable on the backline, as well as returning goalkeeper
Hannah McFadden, who held Keiser to just one goal in their last meeting.
The Yotes and Seahawks are set for their pivotal matchup on Saturday at noon.
