CALDWELL, Idaho – A pair of 11-point efforts by
Mia Austin and
Brooke Beresford were not enough as College of Idaho women's basketball dropped a 55-45 decision to Simpson on Friday.
The Yotes (0-5) held the Red Hawks to 33.3% shooting in the contest.
Simpson (2-3) had three players with 10 points apiece, including Anna Marshall, Rory Hetrick and Natalie Brown.
The Red Hawks took their first lead of the contest when Marshall made a pair of free throws for a 7-6 advantage and remained in front for nearly the rest of the game.
Late in the second quarter, the Yotes erased a nine-point deficit, 20-11 with ten unanswered points. The exclamation mark to the 10-0 run was a 3-pointer by C of I's
Kylie Waltermeyer. The trifecta put the home team ahead 21-20 and for the first time since the 6:36 mark of the first quarter.
Marshall regained the lead on a layup for Simpson, who led for the remainder of the contest. Twice in the second half, College of Idaho got within two but each threat by the Yotes was answered by the Red Hawks.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Yotes as they will face nationally-ranked Carroll on Saturday at 5 p.m.
