College of Idaho Women's Basketball Set to Begin Kyle Erickson Era

NEW HEAD COACH: Kyle Erickson, a 2012 graduate of Montana Western took the reigns of the College of Idaho women's basketball coach on April 3, 2023. He is the sixth head coach in the 29-year history of the program. For 13 of the 29 years at the helm is current C of I Vice President for Athletics, Reagan Rossi, who led College of Idaho to a 246-153 mark in 13 years as the head coach.

PRESEASON POLL: On Wednesday, October 18, in a vote of the head coaches in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Yotes were picked to finish seventh. Eastern Oregon grabbed five first-place votes, earning the top spot with 136 total points. Lewis-Clark State College followed, collecting six first-place votes to sit just one point behind in second place. Southern Oregon University was third after they picked up one first-place vote and 123 points on the preseason poll. Oregon Tech (99 points) and Bushnell University (96 points) round out the top-five teams on the preseason poll, sitting in fourth and fifth, respectively. Just ahead of the Yotes was Corban University, who followed with 80 points to sit in sixth.

WHAT RETURNS:  2977 of 5851 (50.9%) of its minutes played; 296 of 647 (45.7%) of its field goals; 134 of 200 (67%) of its 3-point field goals; 154 of 331 (46.5%) of its free throws; 343 of 1104 (31.1%) of its rebounds; 203 of 367 (55.3%) of its assists; 880 of 1825 (48.2%) of its scoring.

SEASON OPENERS: When the Yotes take the floor in Dillon on Thursday against Montana Western, it will mark the fifth straight year that C of I has started the new campaign on the road and the ninth time time in the last 10 seasons. The only time that the program has started at home in the last eight years was on Nov. 4, 2017 in a 48-37 loss to Carroll.

RECORD BOOK WATCH:  EARLY STARTS: Thursday's game on October 26 will be the second earliest date that the Yotes have began a season. The earliest was on October 24, 2019 when College of Idaho faced Carroll in Helena.

HOMECOMING: First year head coach Kyle Erickson played college basketball at Montana Western. While at Montana Western, he was named an All-American after the 2011-12 season. His first coaching job was with the Bulldogs women in 2012-13.. He is also famiiliar as he spent a season as an assistant at Rocky Mountain for the 2015-16 season. 

DOWNTOWN MIA: Sophomore guard MIa Austin made 63 3-pointers as a freshman in 2022-23. The 63 trifectas by Austin are the most by a freshman in program history.

HAIL TO THE CHIEF: Senior forward Emma Anderson, in addition to her basketball responsibilities serves as the ASCI (Associated Students of The College of Idaho) President. Her Vice President is Yotes football quarterback Andy Peters.

DON'T I KNOW YOU: Montana Western sophomore guard Isabella Lund and College of Idaho freshman forward Kylie Waltermeyer were teammates at Tumwater High School. 

GEM STATE FLAVOR: With the arrival of 11 newcomers, the 2023-24 roster features seven members from the state of Idaho / the Gem State. The state of Washington / the Evergreen State is represented by five members.

HOME SWEET HOME: After starting the season in Dillon, Montana / 381 miles away from home, this weekend, the next five contests will either be in Caldwell or nearby Nampa (at NNU on Nov. 3) in Boise (at Boise State on Nov. 6).

 FRONTIER CONFERENCE FRIENDS: College of Idaho is an affiliate member of the Frontier Conference, whereas Montana Western and Rocky Mountain hold membership for all of its sports in the Frontier Conference. The Yotes are currently at the top of the Frontier Conference in football with a 5-1 conference mark and 7-1 overall record.
