La Grande, Ore. – No. 3 Eastern Oregon spoiled the hopes for an upset bid by the College of Idaho volleyball team on Tuesday evening. The first two sets were tightly contested with each team winning a set as EOU took the first set by a 25-20 margin and the Yotes winning the second by an identical margin, 25-20.
With the match tied at a set apiece, the host Mountaineers erased a 3-0 deficit in the third set with five unanswered points on its way to take the third set by a 25-11 margin and led from start to finish in the fourth by a 25-14 advantage to secure the victory.
College of Idaho (13-11, 11-5 CCC) hit .061 in the match with 10 kills and eight digs by Janae Rayborn. Plus, Haley McUne nearly registered a double double with nine kills and 14 digs to go along with three service aces. Analise Hitchcock and Savannah Hutchins had 20 and 16 assists, respectively. Alexa Wheeler and Jade Warren posted four and three blocks, respectively.
EOU (22-1, 15-1 CCC) managed to hit .238 in the win with 14 kills apiece from Keira Vaughn and Madison Morgan. Setters Alexis McMurtrey and Hannah Ledgerwood had 22 and 21 assists, respectively. McMurtrey also had four of the Mountaineers' seven aces and Mylie Mills and Morgan were strong at the net with seven and five blocks, respectively.
Next, College of Idaho will travel to Portland, Ore. to face host Multnomah on Friday and Warner Pacific on Saturday.
