Record-Setting Day for No. 10 College of Idaho in 59-0 Win Over MSU-Northern

CALDWELL, Idaho - A school record defensive effort overshadowed a school record offensive output as No. 10 College of Idaho blanked MSU-Northern, 59-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Yotes defense held the Lights to a school record 17 yards of total offense in the win. With 59 points on Saturday to go along with 56 in last week's contest against Arizona Christian, the Yotes have racked up a school record 115 points in back-to-back games.

College of Idaho (6-1, 4-1 Frontier Conference) was led by a four-touchdown effort from quarterback Andy Peters, who became the first Yote quarterback since Darius James Peterson vs. Ottawa on October 23, 2019 with a similar effort. He is just the sixth quarterback in program history to throw four touchdown passes in a game.

Two of the four touchdown passes went to Jon Schofield, who now has 16. The 16 touchdowns by Schofield are the 12th most in a single season, plus his eight receiving touchdowns is one shy of the school record of nine held by Jack Kennevick in 1953. In the contest, Peters connected with Schofield for an 80-yard touchdown pass which is the sixth longest in program history.

Another record-setting performance on the day came to start the second half as Caden Cobb took the kickoff back 90 yards for a touchdown. His two kickoff returns in back to back games for a touchdown are the first time in program history, plus his two touchdowns in a season is just the third time in program history.

With all the fireworks on the offensive side, the defense forced seven three-and-outs on the day and picked off a pair of passes with the first career interceptions by Malachi Lyons and Brady Frame. The defense also racked up 12 tackles for loss for the ninth most in a single game.

After scoring touchdowns on three of its first six drives for a 21-0 lead in the first half, the Yotes added to its lead with 38 points in the second half. For the season, the Yotes are outscoring its opponents by 172-38 – 103-3 in third quarter - in the final 30 minutes. College of Idaho added to its lead with a seven play, 40-yard drive that culminated with a two-yard touchdown run by Caden Young for a 49-0 lead. William Botch added a 20-yard field goal and Ed Berglund scored on an eight-yard touchdown run for the final margin of 59-0.

Next, College of Idaho will face Carroll in Helena, Montana on Saturday, October 21 at noon.
