CANCER AWARENESS: The College of Idaho along with women's basketball teams across the country are participating in the Coaches vs. Cancer campaign. As part of the awareness, College of Idaho will be wearing orange t-shirts in pre-game activities representing leukemia. The connection for the program is Jenika Zurita, who was slated to join the program in the fall, was diagnosed with leukemia in May 2022.
CONFERENCE PLAY: The Cascade Collegiate Conference began play with the 1993-94 season with the Yotes joining the conference in 1995-96. College of Idaho, formerly known as Albertson College, won a league title in 2000-01 with a 14-2 mark and another in 2009-10 with a 14-4 effort. The Yotes were also the conference tournament champions in 2009-10 and 2011-12. All-time in CCC games, College of Idaho has a mark of 284-184 with five-straight seasons of double-digit wins.
UPSET MINDED YOTES: College of Idaho had upset on its mind against No. 23 Southern Oregon, last Saturday. The Yotes nearly upset the No. 23 Raiders by a 72-67 margin. In the contest, College of Idaho made more free throws (+3) and attempted more free throws (+2), outrebounded (+6) and had more assists (+2) and blocked shots (+2) than SOU.
A TERROR FROM TARYN: College of Idaho sophomore guard
Taryn Riley has scored in double figures in the six of her last eight games, including a career-high 25 against Walla Walla on December 30. She had her second 20 point game of the season, last Saturday, against the Raiders.
DOWNTOWN MIA: Freshman
Mia Austin has made a 3-pointer in 18 of her 22 games of her young career. Austin had a stretch of consecutive games with a 3-pointer end at 11 as she failed to make a 3-pointer last time out against Corban. On five occasions, Austin has made at least four 3-pointers in a game, most recently against Oregon Tech on January 20. For the season, Austin has made 40.7% (33 of 81) of her 3-point attempts which ranks as the fifth best in a single season in program history (based on minimum 25 made).
ONE-TWO PUNCH: The tandem of
Lexi Mitchell and
Sienna Riggle have been key contributors to the success of the Yotes women's basketball program. Heading into this week's action, Mitchell has recorded 13 career double double performances; most recently against Southern Oregon (1/21/23) and Riggle has posted 12 with her last double double coming at Bushnell (1/13/23).
BRING IT ON BRYANNA: Freshman
Bryanna Graham had one of the best games of her career against Bushnell on January 13. The La Verne, California native scored a career-high 12 points on a career-best four 3-pointers.
WALLOP OF WALLA WALLA: The 45 point win, 79-34, over Walla Walla is the largest margin of victory over an opponent since a 55-point victory over Bethesda (11/13/21) and the most over a conference opponent since a 58-point victory over the Wolves on December 29, 2018.
JADA CLAUS: Junior guard
Jada Reed handed out a school record 12 assists in the win 79-34 win over Walla Walla. Reed matched the mark of 12 assists that is shared by former College of Idaho standouts, Petra Lumpert (12/31/16 at Northwest) and Mackenzie Royce (1/26/19 vs. Yellowstone Christian).
