CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho men's soccer team opened the home campaign Monday against Linfield, where the Yotes would come out on top by a score of 2-0.
The Yotes dominated the possession game, controlling the ball in the Linfield half for a majority of the opening half of the contest. The game was held shotless for the first 25 minutes of play, and the first half would finish with seven shots on goal. Going into the break, the game was tied at zero.
Eric Hornung got the scoring started just four minutes into the second half to give the Yotes a 1-0 lead.
Caik Silva entered the game in the 60th minute, wasting no time at all, scoring on his first touch of the game following a deflection by a Linfield defender, giving the Yotes a 2-0 lead which would hold to be the final.
"The team was running on fumes today," said head coach
Thom Baker. "We only had 15 hours of rest from a physical game yesterday. I am really pleased that the team was able to keep a clean sheet and earn a win."
Up next for the Yotes is a road contest against Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore. on September 9.
