REDDING, Calif. - The College of Idaho women's soccer team starts the season 2-0 after defeating Simpson on Sunday by a score of 2-1.
Freshman
Gianna Yslava got the scoring started in the 34th minute, tallying her first goal of the season as the Yotes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half, a lead they would take into the break. Simpson would answer back in the second half as Hayley Ward scored to even the game at one in the 54th minute of the contest.
Natasja Davis continued her hot start to the season, netting her fourth goal in two games as the Yotes would regain the lead at 2-1, a lead that the team would hold.Â
The game was only the second time that the Yotes and Simpson had matched up, as the Yotes earned the victory the first time the teams met back in 2018, a score of 11-0.
"We were really good today for long segments," added head coach
Brian Smith. "We had a chance to really open the game up but weren't quite efficient enough in the final third and left the door open. Credit to our leaders and returners to inspire us to find a way to get another win on the road. Their experience is massive and our new players are never settling. This group is growing daily and I am excited about the direction we are heading."Â
Up next for the squad is a neutral site game against Doane, which will take place in Walla Walla, Wash. on September 3.
