CALDWELL, Idaho - Yotes baseball sophomore
Jonah Hultberg was named the WVT Laboratory CCC Baseball Player of the Year on Friday after an impressive season.
Hultberg led the CCC in batting average (.423), slugging percentage (.725), on-base percentage (.498), runs scored (71), hits (94), and total bases (161). Hultberg's batting average ranks just outside the top-25 in the NAIA.Â
Hultberg's season stats place him among the top leaders in school history for a single year. His batting average puts him in fourth place for the highest in a single season in school history. His slugging percentage places him fifth, where his on base percentage places him sixth in school history for a single campaign. His 94 hits this season is good for a tie for third. Hultberg recorded 23 doubles on the year, which places him in a tie for fourth place, and his 161 total bases is good for a tie for third.
The Boise native has started every game so far for the Yotes and is a perfect 12-12 when stealing bases this season.
"Well deserved! The numbers speak for themselves, but the consistency is the most impressive part to me," said Yotes head coach
Shawn Humberger. "Hitting is supposed to be hard, but if he has a bad at-bat, you're in shock because it is a rare occurrence. On top of all the great numbers he has put up in his three years at the College of Idaho, he's done it having to switch positions in each of those years. He is one of the all time greats to wear a Yote uniform."
The Yotes open the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament on Monday in Lewiston against the Univ. of British Columbia at 1 p.m. PT (2 p.m. MT).
