2022 Softball Notebook (Week 10)

CONFERENCE / NATIONAL POLL: Wednesday was the announcement of the fourth NAIA regular season poll. In the latest poll,  the Yotes are ranked No. 7 behind fellow CCC foe, Oregon Tech at No. 1. C of I was ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll. Plus, the Yotes were picked to finish second in both the Cascade Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll and the preseason NAIA Top-25 Coaches Poll. POST-SEASON AWAITS: Regardless of the outcome of the series against Providence, the Yotes have secured a spot in the CCC Championship along with Oregon Tech, Eastern Oregon and Southern Oregon. The site is still to be determined.  The Yotes have clinched their ninth postseason appearance in the 21-year history of the program and their seventh trip to the CCC Championships (2006, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022). The 2013 team won the title. C of I qualified for the 2007 and 2008 NAIA Region I Tournaments - winning the 2008 title and losing in the title game in 2007. The 2013 club qualified for the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round site in Irvine, Calif. and the 2019 team qualified the Opening Round site in Hattiesburg, Miss. The 2008, 2009, 2014 and 2021 teams advanced to the NAIA Softball World Series, where the 2014 team placed fifth overall. In all, C of I has a 36-26 all-time postseason record, including a 19-14 record in NAIA Championships play and a 13-9 mark in the CCC Championships.

ACADEMIC ACCOLADES: 18 members of the Yote softball program were among 83 College of Idaho student-athletes, who were named to the U.S. Bank/CCC Academic All-Conference Team. Among the 18 honored were Payton Bates, Kaily Christensen, Reylene Cortes, Lauren Garman, Alyssa Goff, Lauren Gordon, Haley Loffer, Makenna Luke, Kaylee MacDannald, Hannah McNerney, Hannah MIkel, Daralyn Moua, Alexis Navarrete, Annie Polster, Lauren Thomsen, Lysette Villegas, Katelyn Wilfert and Sydney Zachry.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS - TEAM: College of Idaho finds itself ranked among the nation's top teams in multiple offensive categories (runs - 25th; RBIs - 29th; doubles - 31st; extra-base hits - 33rd)

RECORD BOOK WATCH: Haley Loffer ranks among the top; five in multiple offensive categories (1st in runs scored (172); 1st in walks (100); 1st in stolen bases (98); 2nd in on-base percentage (.493); tied for 2nd in home runs (20); tied for 2nd in triples (12); tied for 2nd in HBP (28); third in slugging percentage (.614); fourth all-time in batting average (.360); fourth in total bases (281); fifth in doubles (37) and sixth in hits (170). 

For Hannah McNerney, her 39 wins ranks fourth all-time, 90 appearances is third all-time and the 221 strikeouts is sixth all-time. She has saw action in 392 innings which ranks fifth all-time.

Kylie Smith has played in 213 games which ranks second all-time and the 210 starts rank second all-time. She has tallied 198 hits with a near .300 career batting average to go along with 141 runs scored – which ranks third all-time, 113 RBI which ranks all-time to go along with 27 stolen bases.

Katelyn Wilfert has posted a 2.09 ERA over the last two seasons which is second all-time in school history with a 32-9 record with the 32 wins ranking seventh all-time in 250 innings of work.
 
GRAND THEFT C OF I: For the season, C of I is 73-for-81 in stolen base attempts. C of I has eclipsed the 70 stolen base mark in a season on 6 occasions. The 73 stolen bases ranks sixth all-time in a single season.

Haley Loffer
leads the team with 25 stolen bases. Earlier this season, she set the school career record for stolen bases, last week, when she eclipsed the previous mark of 78 held by Heather Kirtley (2004-07). For her career, Loffer has 98 stolen bases. Loffer holds the school single-season record with 32 stolen bases that she set in the 2019 season.
