CALDWELL, Idaho – No. 10 Southern Oregon took a pair of games from host No. 7 College of Idaho at Symms Field on Friday afternoon.
The 20 mph windy conditions saw the two teams combine for 32 runs and 43 hits in the two games as SOU won the two games by a 7-6 and 14-5 margin, respectively.
The two losses drop the Yotes to 35-10 overall and 20-6 in the CCC, whereas the Raiders raise their mark to 40-10 overall and 20-6 in the CCC. The two wins also improve the SOU winning streak to 11 games on the season.
Game one saw the visitors from Ashland rally from a 6-1 deficit and score six runs in the final three innings en route to the win. The loss spoiled a three-hit, two-RBI effort for the Yotes'
Hattie Hruza, who paced four with multiple hits as
Haley Loffer,
Kaily Christensen and Katelyn WIlfert also had two hits.
In the win for SOU, nine of the 12 hits came off the bats from Riley Donovan, Cayla Williams and Lindsey Stripling who each had three. Donovan had two RBI and Phelicity Fa'Aita had a three-run home run fifth to spark the come-from-behind win. Williams got the win to raise her record to 13-2.
Game two saw the visitors pick up where they left off in game one with an early 9-0 lead through the first four innings before the Yotes came alive with a five-run bottom of the fourth to cut into the SOU lead. The hot-hitting Raiders came back with a run each in the fifth and sixth to go along with three in the seventh for the final margin.
For the Yotes, Loffer two hits and two RBIs and Christensen and
Hallie Holland each had two hits to lead College of Idaho.
For the Raiders, six different players had multiple hits including Williams, who had a game-high three to lead SOU. Donovan drove in three and Williams and K. Fulton each had a pair of RBIs in the win.
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a Saturday 11 a.m. twinbill. Between the two games, College of Idaho will recognize its 10 seniors on the squad.
