Kansas City, Mo. – The run to the national title for The College of Idaho men's basketball team ended in a 60-53 loss to Loyola (New Orleans) in the round of 16 on Saturday afternoon.
College of Idaho (32-5) was led by the fifth double double of the season by
Jake O'Neil, who scored 14 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. He was joined in double figures by
Derek Wadsworth and
Drew Wyman, who added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Loyola (35-1) landed a pair of players in double figures including Myles Burns and Zach Wrightstil, who had 17 and 15 points, respectively. Wolfpack reserve and former 'Yote,
Jalen Galloway came off the bench to score eight including a 3-pointer with 1:56 left to play that put Loyola ahead 53-52 and for the remainder of the contest.
The contest was tightly contested as the score was tied eight times and saw 16 lead changes.
Down 47-46 with 4:20 to go, Wadsworth and Wyman hit back to back 3-pointers that put the 'Yotes ahead 52-47. The Wolfpack came back and closed out the contest on a 13-1 run to end the game en route to the win to secure a spot in Monday's semifinals.
