LEWISTON, Idaho – College of Idaho closed out their opening weekend of tennis action with a 7-0 loss at rival Lewis-Clark State inside the LCSC Tennis Center.
The Warriors (2-2) swept all nine matches on the day, but the Coyotes played much tougher than the final score indicated.
Facing the regionally ranked doubles team of Lina Boylan and Elisiva Latu, the Coyote pair of
Lauren Kreutzer and
Leiana Almaraz dropped a tight 6-3 decision at the No. 1 spot. At No. 3,
Summer Townsend and
Anna Willcuts forced a tiebreaker, but the LC duo of Maria Silva and Bonolo Molefe outlasted the Yotes (0-2), 7-6.
In singles, C of I played toe-to-toe with the Warriors top players – as Kreutzer dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Boylan at No. 1, with Almaraz forcing a Set 1 tiebreak, before falling to Ekaterina Khardina 7-6, 6-1.
C of I returns to action next weekend with road matches at Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound.
