Tacoma, Wash. – The College of Idaho women's tennis team posted a 6-3 win over NCAA Division III member, Pacific Lutheran at the Sprinker Rec Center.
Following the win, C of I head coach
Jennifer Swing noted that she was happy with the fight of her team.
The Yotes, with the win improve to 1-2, started the match with a pair of wins in doubles. The Lutes fall to 1-4 on the season in the loss.
The first win on the day came at No. 2 doubles by the team of
Leiana Almaraz/
Anna Willcuts, who were 8-5 winners. After PLU won at No. 3 doubles, C of I got an 8-3 win by
Lauren Kreutzer and
Taylor Johnson for a 2-1 lead as the match shifted over to singles.
C of I would go on to get wins at No. 1 singles by Kreutzer, who cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win and at No. 2 singles by Johnson, who won by a 6-1, 6-3 margin. The winning continued for the Yotes with its third straight-set win of the day as
Leiana Almaraz, who won 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 3 flight. The fourth win on the day came as
Summer Townsend was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at the No. 6 flight, who overcame a 0-3 deficit in the second set for the win.
Next, the Yotes will wrap up its weekend with a matchup against University of Puget Sound on Sunday at 10 a.m.
