LEWISTON, Idaho – College of Idaho opened the 2022 women's tennis season with a 7-0 loss to Whitworth University at the LCSC Tennis Center.
The match with the Pirates (2-1) was much closer than the final score – as all three doubles matches were close and C of I took a pair of singles pairings to a third set.
Whitworth claimed all three doubles matches – though the No. 1 singles contest was tight – as
Leiana Almaraz and
Lauren Kreutzer dropped a 6-4 decision to Aleah Kirt and Hannah Plank.
In singles action, the Coyotes (0-1) earned Set 1 wins in two matches – but could not close out the win.
Almaraz, playing up at No. 2, won the opening set against Plank, 6-2, before the Bucs senior grabbed consecutive 6-4 wins.
Freshman
Anna Willcuts rolled to a 6-3 Set 1 win at No. 3, but Gracie Smyley responded by winning the final two sets, 6-0 and 6-1.
The Yotes close out their opening weekend tomorrow, meeting Lewis-Clark State at Noon (PT)
