LEWISTON, Idaho – A last second 3-point attempt from
Allie Cannon fell just short, as No. 21-ranked Lewis-Clark State outlasted upset-minded College of Idaho, 61-58, in the quarterfinals of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, inside the P1FCU Activity Center.
Cannon, who made her first six shot attempts on the night, including five 3-pointers, caught a pass in the corner as the game clock dwindled, but her attempt was partially blocked and fell short. LCSC (25-4) was able to grab the rebound and run out the clock.
The Yotes (16-15) gave the CCC regular-season champs all they could handle. Cannon hit two 3-pointers and
Sienna Riggle scored six points in a 16-3 run spanning the first two quarters, giving the visitors a 24-15 lead – with C of I leading 30-26 at the break.
The lead was 40-39 after three quarters before Callie Stevens canned a runner and a 3-pointer, part of a Warriors 9-1 run that gave the hosts their largest lead of the night at 55-48 with three minutes left.
C of I didn't quit – as
Riley Frith canned a triple and Cannon added another – pulling the Yotes within 59-58 with 15 seconds left. Stevens provided the difference with a pair of free throws late – setting up the Warriors game-winning defensive stop.
Taryn Riley had 11 points and six assists for C of I, with Riggle scoring 10 and
Lexi Mitchell adding 12 rebounds.
Stevens led LCSC with 19 points, with Sara Muehlhausen scoring 15 – as the Warriors won despite making just 4-of-21 shots from 3-point range.
The loss caps the career for three C of I senior student-athletes – Riggle,
Kaylee Krusemark and
Mattie Creager.
