Yotes Win Two More with All-Around Effort to Extend Winning Streak to Seven

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The hot bats and the stifling pitching by The College of Idaho softball led to a pair of victories as the Yotes extend their winning streak to seven with a 14-2 win over Antelope Valley and an 8-0 win over William Jessup on Friday.

C of I (8-2) pounded out 12 hits and scored 14 runs en route to a 14-2 win over Antelope Valley to begin the day. The 12 hits are the fourth time that C of I have posted double digit hits in the young season. The 14 runs are the second highest output for the Yotes in 2021.

Leadoff batter Haley Loffer had three hits, three runs scored and three RBI to lead an offense that saw eight-different players record a hit. Joining Loffer with multiple hits was Tanner Higgins, Hattie Hruza, and Sydney Zachry. Higgins also had three RBI, plus Hruza, Kaily Christensen and Alyssa Goff each had two RBI in the win.

The Yotes scored in three innings of the five-inning mercy rule victory. C of I scored three times in the first and four more in the second for an early 7-0. Then, C of I added to their lead with seven runs on five hits as they sent 12 batters to the plate.

All this offensive output gave support to starting pitcher Hannah McNerney, who went the distance and allowed just three hits and struck out four in the win to raise her record to 3-1.

In the second game of the day, C of I starting pitcher Katelyn Wilfert limited William Jessup to just two hits and the Yotes plated runs in the first three innings en route to an 8-0 win. Haley Loffer continued to provide a spark at the leadoff spot with another 3-for-3 effort to go along with two runs and three RBI in the win. Hallie Holland added a career-high two hits to go along with a hit and RBI each from Kaily Christensen and Tanner Higgins.

Loffer got the game started with a single through the left side and managed to steal second to move into scoring position. She was successfully sacrificed over to third by Kylie Smith and plated her first run of the game when Higgins brought in her on a RBI single. C of I added to its lead with a pair of unearned runs in the inning for an early 3-0 lead. The Yotes added two more in the second inning on a RBI single by Loffer and a RBI double by Christensen. The offense managed to add to the lead with three runs on three hits with Loffer providing the big blow with a two out, two RBI single.

Wilfert allowed just a Kaylee Winn single in the second inning and a double to Kaela Hangeb. The extra-base hit by Hangeb advanced Natalie Nash to third as William Jessup had just two runners in scoring position in the contest.

Next, the Yotes will wrap up its California trip with a rematch of the same two teams. First, they will face William Jessup on Saturday at 10 a.m. (PST) and Antelope Valley at 2 p.m. (PST). Both games will be played in Rocklin, California.
