Yotes Extend Winning Streak to Nine With Wins Over William Jessup and Antelope Valley

ROCKLIN, Calif. - For the second consecutive year and fourth time since 2002, The College of Idaho is in the midst of a nine-game win streak after a 5-3 win over William Jessup and a 3-2 victory over Antelope Valley on Saturday in Rocklin, California.

C of I (10-2), who started the season 1-2 has rattled off nine-straight wins, posted wins over familiar foes as they defeated the same two teams on Friday.

After defeating the Warriors of William Jessup by an 8-0 margin on Friday, the Yotes came away with a 5-3 win on Saturday. The win on Saturday saw C of I come back from a 3-2 deficit to score two in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth for the final margin. Yotes' first baseman Tanner Higgins went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the win. Higgins drove in the go-ahead runs in the fifth inning with a two-RBI single to put C of I ahead 4-3.

Higgins got the Yotes on the scoreboard in the first with a RBI single scoring Haley Loffer, who scored twice in the win. William Jessup tied it in the second on a sacrifice fly before C of I regained the lead with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kylie Smith for a 2-1 advantage.

The Warriors took their first lead of the game on a two-RBI single by Maikyla Neis before the Yotes went back in front on the two-RBI single by Higgins. To set the stage for the two-RBI hit by Higgins, a pair of one out singles by Smith and Kaily Christensen put runners on the corners for Higgins.

With a 4-3 lead, C of I picked up an insurance run in the sixth when Lauren Gordon drove in Lexi Navarette, who reached on an error to start the inning.

The second game of the day saw C of I rally for the second time on the day for a come-from-behind win as they defeated Antelope Valley, 3-2. The Yotes defeated the Marauders, 14-2 on Friday.

In Saturday's contest, C of I came back from a 2-1 deficit with a run each in the fifth and the sixth for the come-from-behind win. Hattie Hruza paced the Yotes with two hits and a RBI in the win.

Down 2-1 in the fifth inning, Gordon reached on an error by the Marauders and made her way into scoring position. Next, pinch hitter Iverson brought in Gordon to tie the game at 2 on a RBI single up the middle.

With the game tied at 2, in the sixth, Smith singled through the left side to lead off the inning. A Christensen sacrifice bunt moved Smith into scoring position. Then, with two out, Hruza delivered a single up the middle for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run as it put the Yotes ahead 3-2.

Out of the bullpen, Katelyn Wilfert pitched the final 4.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven to raise her record to 2-1 for the Yotes.

Next, C of I will host its home opener with a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, respectively against Warner Pacific. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m. and on Saturday at 11 a.m.
