PORTLAND, Ore. – College of Idaho clinched at least a share of their seventh Cascade Conference men's basketball regular-season title and fifth championship since 2014 with a wire-to-wire 82-54 victory over Warner Pacific, inside C.C. Perry Gymnasium.
The No. 9-ranked Coyotes (25-4, 19-2 CCC) held WP to just 34-percent shooting in the victory – their fifth-straight game holding a foe under 61 points. It was C of I's seventh-straight win and their 18th win in 19 starts – as the team became the 13th C of I squad to win 25 games in a season.
A 7-0 start by the visitors set the tone – as a
Drew Wyman runner, a
Tyler Robinett post move for a deuce and a Robinett triple – all in the opening two minutes.
Jake O'Neil scored four points in an 8-0 run that extended the margin to 26-14.
The Knights (14-15, 10-11), who are battling for playoff positioning, cut the margin to 31-25 on a Kaleb Thompkins 3-pointer – only to see
Ricardo Time and
Johnny Radford can 3-balls in a 12-0 run to close the half. C of I never let the deficit fall below 16 points during the second half.
Wyman and Radford each scored 13 points in the victory, with Time scoring 11 – his 14th-straight double-digit scoring game. Robinett posted nine points,
Paul Wilson scored eight, with
Charles Elzie finishing with eight points and four assists.
C of I had a 48-32 edge on the glass and outscored WP 20-3 off turnovers.
Thomas Miles led the Knights with 10 points.
The Yotes close out the regular-season tomorrow night, traveling to Multnomah for a 5 p.m. (PT) start.
