Elzie Leads No. 4 College of Idaho Men's Basketball to 67-59 Win Over Southern Oregon

CALDWELL, Idaho - No. 4 College of Idaho posted a 67-59 win over Southern Oregon to begin CCC play on Friday night. In the win, it was a a big second half as junior Charles Elzie scored 10 of his team-high 13 points and the Yotes shot 56.5% from the field in the field on its way to the win. Tyler Robinett and Johnny Radford each added 12 for College of Idaho, who defeated the Raiders for a seventh-straight time.
 
Southern Oregon, who falls to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, was paced by a 13-point effort from Josh Meyer and 11 points each from Tez Allen and Atmar Mundu. The Raiders were the first opponent in the last 30 games to outrebound the Yotes with a 34-29 margin.  
 
College of Idaho, who raises its record to 6-1 and 1-0 in the CCC, managed to force 17 turnovers that they turned into 16 points and the bench again was a spark for the Yotes, who outscored the Raiders by a 26-12 margin on the strength of the 12 points from Radford to go along with eight from Straton Rogers – who also had a team-high seven rebounds – and six points and three assists from Samaje Morgan.
 
Down three, 44-43 with 11:56 to go, a dunk by Robinett put the Yotes ahead for the sixth time in the game. Nearly four minutes later, the Raiders were within one before the experience of Elzie took over for College of Idaho. The junior guard from Tacoma, Washington scored six of the next eight to put College of Idaho ahead seven, 59-52, with 5:19 left to play. He also had an answer when the Raiders had the deficit down to two, 59-57, with back-to-back baskets as College of Idaho scored eight of the final 10 points en route to the 67-59 win.  
 
Next, College of Idaho will host Oregon Tech on Saturday to wrap up the opening weekend of CCC play with a scheduled 5 p.m. tip.
