CALDWELL, Idaho – Sophomore
Jake O'Neil had his second-straight double double, scoring a game-high 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as College of Idaho knocked down 16 3-pointers in a 101-62 win over Multnomah on Friday night.
College of Idaho (9-1, 4-0 CCC) were paced by the efforts from O'Neil but it was not a one-person show for the victors, who won its ninth in a row. He was joined in double figures by
Charles Elzie (15 pts.),
Tyler Robinett (13 pts.),
Straton Rogers (11 pts.) and
Drew Wyman (10 pts.). The Yotes shot 55.6% from the field in the final 20 minutes, making 57.1% (12 of 21) of its three-point attempts to stretch a six-point lead to double digits for nearly the entire final 20 minutes. The 16 3-pointers by College of Idaho is the most since a similar effort against Northwest Christian on February 21, 2020.
Multnomah (6-4, 1-3 CCC) was limited to 31.4% in the second half after a 46.4% clip for the first half. Three Lions were in double figures with Zach Richardson scoring a team-high 19 in the loss. Richardson along with teammate Taylor Peppinger made four 3-pointers in the game. Peppinger scored 12 and Tyrese Taylor added 12 in the loss.
Down by five, 33-28 with 4:07 left in the opening half, College of Idaho closed out the half on a 15-4 run to end the first 20 minutes. In the half-ending spurt, Wyman and Elzie each hit a 3-pointer and Robinett beat the buzzer with a layup to spark the home team.
The Lions clawed back to get within four before a 21-0 run by the host Yotes ended the comeback hopes for the visitors from Portland.
