EUGENE, Ore. - The College of Idaho women's soccer program advanced to the Cascade Collegiate Conference championship game after defeating Southern Oregon by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday.
The first half was a defensive battle as the score was tied at zero, with both keepers recording a combined seven saves.
Hannah McFadden recorded two, while SOU's Jessie Selby recorded five.Â
The second half began the same way, deadlocked at zero until freshman
Gianna Yslava broke through off a feed from
Kaeden Hansen, finding the back of the net to give the Yotes a 1-0 lead with just 14 minutes remaining in the game. The Yotes defense was stellar in the second half, only allowing three shots, none of which were on target in the second frame en route to the victory.
"Unreal performance today. We played tremendous," said head coach
Brian Smith. "Every girl gave their heart and soul tonight. This was truly a full team and program win. Every Yote past and present can be proud of tonight. Now we get to set our sites on playing for the conference title. This is such a special group. I have been in this journey for 19 years and have never seen a performance like tonight. This team is an honor to work with."
With Northwest's victory, the Yotes earn the CCC's second Auto Qualifier bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
The Yotes will face off against Northwest on Friday in the CCC championship game.
