ASHLAND, Ore. - The College of Idaho men's soccer program earned a solid victory over Southern Oregon, taking down the Raiders in Ashland by a score of 3-1.
The first half resulted in a 0-0 draw.
Tom Baynard-Smith stopped both shots he faced in the half, and SOU's Casey Ruvolo also recorded two saves in the half.Â
Eric Hornung continued his streak of impressive outings, scoring in his fifth consecutive game to open the scoring in the 57th minute off a bad clearance from SOU. The Raiders would answer just seven minutes later as Sam Walker would put the ball in the back of the net to tie the game at one. In the 73rd minute, off a hand ball in the penalty area by SOU,
Emil Powles was able to score on the PK to give the Yotes the lead at 2-1. Hornung would then score yet again off an assist from
Ben Garrick in the 77th minute, which is Hornung's tenth goal of the season.Â
The win for the Yotes stopped a six game winning streak for the Raiders.
"This was playoff soccer in an incredibly tough atmosphere," said head coach
Thom Baker. "It had all of the facets of the conference tournament - two quality sides, intensity from both teams, and physical, hard play. I am very excited to see our boys rebound after a tough loss to OIT yesterday. This is a very positive step forward for our young team."
The Yotes next travel to Helena to take on Carroll on Friday, followed by a road match with Walla Walla next Sunday.
