CALDWELL, Idaho – A perfect night from
Paul Wilson and big efforts from seniors
Ricardo Time and
Derek Wadsworth helped the College of Idaho run their win streak to six, sprinting past short-handed Multnomah University, 90-72, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
Wilson scored a career-high 18 points, converting all nine of his field goal attempts – becoming just the third player in C of I history to make at least nine field goals without a miss in a game. The 7-footer joined Chuck Blackhurst, who had a 9-for-9 game vs. Whitworth in 1986 and Steve Masten, who finished 13-for-13 in a 1980 game at Eastern Oregon.
The No. 18-ranked Coyotes (14-3, 8-1 CCC) extended their win streak to seven following the game, earning a forfeit victory over Warner Pacific – as the Knights are unable to play tomorrow's scheduled game due to COVID protocols.
The Lions (8-8, 4-4), made the trip with just eight players in uniform – but rode post Terin Johnson, as the freshman scored 10 early points, pulling the visitors within 27-24 with eight minutes left in the first half. C of I made a defensive adjustment and it fueled a 13-2 run, as Wilson scored twice in the rally, with the spurt punctuated on a
Jake O'Neil fastbreak alley-oop dunk.
The Yotes opened the second half on a 6-0 run to balloon the lead to 49-32 – with the lead remaining in double-digits the rest of the way.
Time narrowly missed a double-double, scoring 17 points with nine rebounds, while Wadsworth scored 15 points on a season-high five 3-point makes. O'Neil posted his second double-double of the year, scoring 13 points with 11 rebounds.
C of I held a commanding 50-21 edge on the glass and converted 54-percent of their field goals – including a 62-percent effort in the second half.
Johnson led MU with 25 points, including 11-of-11 from the foul line, while Andrew Classen added a career-high 13 points.
The Coyotes return to action next weekend, traveling Friday to Evergreen and Saturday to Northwest.
