Yotes Finally Make 2022 Debut, Fall at Evergreen 63-39

Cannon and Riggle Score 12 for C of I

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Playing for the first time in 2022, The College of Idaho could not overcome a tough shooting night, as The Evergreen State College defeated the Yotes, 63-39, inside Costantino Recreation Center.

The Coyotes (11-7, 5-5 CCC), who took the court for the first time since New Year's Eve, got 12 points from both Sienna Riggle and Allie Cannon, but could not overcome a 16-for-59 shooting night as a team.

The Geoducks (6-8, 4-6), coming off a one-week COVID-pause, used a 14-2 edge at the foul line and scored 18 points off C of I turnovers in the win.

TESC used an 18-4 run spanning the first and second quarters to take a 28-9 lead, before the visitors made a spirited comeback. A triple from Cannon and a late bucket from Riggle cut the margin to 33-18 at the break. The rally continued in the third quarter, as Cannon drained a trey, followed by a lay-up and two free throws from Lexi Mitchell, capping a 7-0 run that got the Coyotes within 38-30 late in the period.

C of I would trail 47-37 a minute into the fourth quarter, but TESC would close the game on a 16-2 run.

Riggle made 6-of-10 field goals and had nine rebounds, with Cannon going 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Mitchell led C of I with 10 rebounds – her eighth double-digit rebound game of the season.

The Greeners were paced by the tandem of Sha'Nece Garret and Trinity Betoney – as Garret scored a game-high 20 points, with Betoney scoring 17 points, adding 15 rebounds and five assists.

C of I returns to the court tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. (PT) meeting at Northwest University.
