Â
ABOUT GEORGE FOX: The Bruins went 6-2 in the spring campaign, including a perfect 4-0 mark at home. Madison Burch led the scoring with three goals for George Fox and returns to lead the attack up front for her senior season. Additionally, Maggee Hodgon (2 goals) and Claire Wright (2 goals) each return as well. Keeper Annalisa Klein was a major loss for the program after the spring season. Over the first two contests, George Fox has relied on Bella Salazar (1 GAA) to step into her shoes.
Â
ABOUT LINFIELD: The Wildcats have taken on a pair of Cascade Conference foes to kick off the 2021 season, working a 2-2 draw against Evergreen and falling 3-0 to Oregon Tech. Laney Green and Emma Sammartino scored a goal each against the Geoducks, while Alyssa Bakkensen (4.09 GAA) has seen 46 shots fired at her in net so far, hauling in 21 saves and allowing the five goals.
Â
ON THE ATTACK: Over the course of the first three games this fall, C of I has seen an increase in shots per game from 12.4 last season to 15.7 this year.
Â
A DIFFERENT TYPE OF GAME: When both Central Washington and the Yotes scored more than two goals in their meeting last week, it marked just the second time that had happened in a C of I game since Oct. 19, 2018. The only other time that both the Yotes and the opposition have tallied two or more goals was in a 3-3 draw at Idaho State this past spring.
WEGNER SCORES FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL: Freshman
Larissa Wegner started the scoring for the Yotes in the 51st minute against Central Washington last week off an assist by
Lily Schlake for her first goal since joining the Purple and White. Wegner is a Rocky Mountain High product.Â
Â
HERRIDGE FIRING STRIKES: Junior defender
Brynna Herridge also found the net against the Wildcats with an impressive long-range missile in the 68th minute. The goal, her second already on the season, moved Herridge into a tie for her career-high for goals in a season that she previously set back in 2019.
Â
SPLITTING TIME IN NET: Senior
Shae Waters (1.33 GAA) and junior
Hannah McFadden (1.33 GAA) have each worked 135 minutes in goal for the Yotes over the course of the first three games, with both keepers currently posting the same goals against average. Waters has faced 21 shots and made nine saves while allowing two goals. McFadden has faced 19 shots, making 10 saves and yielding a pair of goals.
Â
C OF I PICKED THIRD: The College of Idaho was picked to finish third in the Cascade Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll for the upcoming season. A total of 24 players return for the CCC East Division winners, including nine starters and three All-Conference selections. By winning the division this spring, the Yotes advanced to the NAIA National Championships for the first time in program history. Eastern Oregon received nine of the 13 first-place votes in the poll to take home 164 points. The Mountaineers top the preseason poll, followed by Oregon Tech with 154 points and two first-place votes. C of I occupied the third spot in the rankings with 131 points and one first-place vote, while Corban had 120 points and one first-place vote. Northwest rounded out the top-five with 115 points.Â
