CALDWELL, Idaho – A trio of goals and a shutout in net lifted College of Idaho to a 3-0 win over Corban on Friday night in the home opener at Simplot Stadium.
The Yotes (6-2, 3-0 CCC) extended their streak of shutouts to five straight games by blanking the Warriors (5-1, 1-1 CCC) despite facing 10 shots overall and six on frame.
Shae Waters had five saves in the first 45 minutes and
Hannah McFadden grabbed a save in the second half in the win.
The impressive defensive effort was supported well by the offensive attack, starting with a
Maddie Smith goal in the 8th minute. After C of I won possession of the ball, Smith then fired a low-roller from 25-yards out past the keeper on the left side of the net for her first goal of the season.
Following the Smith goal, the Warriors rattled off the next five shots, with Waters saving two of them, another hitting the crossbar, one getting blocked and the other sailing wide.
Neither team found the net for the rest of the first half, with the next tally for C of I coming in the 60th minute off a
Brynna Herridge free kick. With Herridge lining up angle right from 32-yards out, the strong-legged defender would launch a beautiful ball in front of the net that was headed by
Lily Schlake to the waiting
Lizzy Gonzalez, who did the rest by putting the ball into the back-right corner of the net for her third goal of the season.
Sydney Clements added an insurance goal in the 86th minute after stealing the ball and winning a 1-v-1 battle with the keeper.
The 3-0 start in CCC play marks the second straight season that the Yotes have accomplished the feat. C of I plays Bushnell on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
