Wegner Nets First Career Goal in 3-2 Loss to CWU

NAMPA, Idaho – After both teams had traded goals over the first 68 minutes, Central Washington broke a second half tie with a Maci Parke tally in the 74th minute to win 3-2 over College of Idaho on Thursday at Northwest Nazarene University.

The Wildcats (1-0) started the scoring in the 23rd minute when Makinzie Packwood found the net off an assist from Stacia Conley.

After a scoreless rest of the first half, the Yotes (1-1) responded with Larissa Wegner's first collegiate goal in the 51st minute. Wegner created just enough space between her and the defender to create what essentially amounted to a 1-v-1 opportunity with the goalkeeper, with the freshman from Rocky Mountain High converting with a roller into the left side of the net. Lily Schlake was credited with the assist.

For Central Washington, Sydney Lowe broke the 1-1 tie by getting behind the Coyote defense and creating a 1-v-1 opportunity with C of I keeper Shae Waters in the 55th minute. As Waters came out to dive for the ball it deflected off into a spot where Lowe was able to retrieve the ball and fire in a shot that found the net.

Brynna Herridge brought the Yotes back to even in the 68th minute with a beautiful arching shot from about 15-yards out that angled perfectly into the upper-left portion of the net. Herridge created the good look with a quick deke that led to the defender for the Wildcats running right by her.

Parke then finished things off for Central Washington with her 74th minute goal off a Packwood assist.

Payton Anderson and Lily Schlake each generated shots on frame over the last 15 minutes to try to get C of I back to even, with CWU keeper Megan Fox making the save on each attempt.

The Wildcats outshot the Yotes 20-14, with an edge of 15-10 in shots on goal. Each team had six corners, with CWU committing 18 fouls to just six for C of I.

Madison Glascock led the attack with four shots and three on frame. Keeper Hannah McFadden had seven saves while allowing the one goal in the first half. Waters played the second half and brought in four saves.

C of I is back to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Northwest Nazarene.
