Yotes Post Fourth Straight Shutout in 3-0 Win at WPU

PORTLAND, Ore. – A successful opening weekend of Cascade Conference play was capped off with a 3-0 win for College of Idaho over Warner Pacific on Saturday afternoon.

Once again, the Yotes (5-2, 2-0 CCC) were the aggressor, taking 21 shots to just four for the Knights (1-4, 0-2 CCC).

With Hannah McFadden and Shae Waters continuing to split time in goal for C of I and a quality defensive group in front of them, the Yotes extended their streak of not allowing a goal in a game to four straight contests, outscoring the opposition 12-0 in the process.

To get the scoring going in support of the outstanding defense behind her, Megan Wilkinson fired a bullet into the net from 25-yards out to put the Yotes on the board in the 35th minute.

After the Purple and White had held possession for a long period of time early in the second half, Lily Schlake added to the offense in the 64th minute for her team-high fifth goal of the season. The opportunity for Schlake resulted from opening up the middle of the field with quick ball movement, putting the junior in a position to beat the keeper from the right box with a bending ball that went into the back left of the net.

The scoring concluded for the Yotes in the 86th minute on a well-struck penalty kick goal by Alexa Rierson that found the back of the net despite the keeper reacting properly and going the right direction on the shot.

C of I held a 6-1 advantage in corners for the contest, with Schlake leading the way with four shots. Rierson had three of her own in the win.

The Yotes host Corban on Friday evening at Simplot Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the Yotes Digital Network.
