Yotes Start Conference Play with 4-0 Shutout of Lions

PORTLAND, Ore. – Lizzy Gonzalez started the scoring with two goals over the first 12 minutes of play and Lily Schlake finished it off with a pair of second half tallies to lead College of Idaho to a 4-0 win over Multnomah in the Cascade Conference opener for both sides on Friday.

Gonzalez, a transfer from the Community Colleges of Spokane, connected on the first goal of her career in the Purple and White in the fifth minute off an assist from Payton Anderson.

Shortly thereafter in the 12th minute, Alexa Rierson passed a ball up the right side to Madison Glascock who dribbled in and hit a diagonal ball to Gonzalez, who would do the rest to make it 2-0 early.

The score remained the same throughout the remainder of the first half.

In the second half, Schlake started the offense in the 70th minute with a penalty kick goal to push the Coyote (4-2, 1-0 CCC) lead to 3-0.

The defending CCC Offensive Player of the Week wasn't done providing some cushion for the C of I lead though, finding the net in the 72nd minute as well. The opportunity was created by Gonzalez, who sent a thru ball into a good spot for Schlake to do the rest by slipping the ball on the ground past the keeper and inside the right post.

Schlake led the way with six shots for the contest, while Gonzalez had four. Brynna Herridge had five shots.

Multnomah (1-2, 0-1 CCC) will take on Eastern Oregon tomorrow night after dropping their conference opener.

C of I posted a 34-1 edge in shots in the win over the Lions, including a 19-0 advantage in shots on frame.

Shae Waters and Hannah McFadden finished with their fourth combined shutout of the season in net for the Yotes. C of I has not allowed a goal over the last three matches.

After the win to begin CCC action, the Yotes return to play on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT against Warner Pacific. The game will once again take place at the Eastside Timbers Soccer Complex in Portland.
