MCMINNVILLE, Ore. –
Lily Schlake headed in the golden goal in the 98th minute to send College of Idaho home with a 1-0 win over Linfield to finish off non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
Following a loose ball,
Payton Anderson found herself in a position to serve an opportunity in front of the net with her left foot. After a quality placement from Anderson, Schlake skied a header over the top of Wildcats (1-2-1) keeper Alyssa Bakkensen for her second goal of the season.
For the Yotes (3-2), the win wraps up a weekend sweep in Oregon ahead of Cascade Conference play getting underway next week.
A resilient attack from C of I continued to keep the Linfield defense busy throughout the day, as the Yotes racked up 22 shots, including 13 on frame.
Schlake was a major part of that effort, tallying six shots for the contest, with four on goal.
Megan Wilkinson,
Lexie Hibler and Anderson each finished with two shots on target for the day.
In goal for the Yotes,
Hannah McFadden and
Shae Waters each made a pair of saves on the way to the third shutout of the campaign for the duo in net. McFadden stopped a key shot attempt by Callie Kawaguchi in the 41st minute to keep the game scoreless heading into the break.
C of I begins CCC action next Friday at 2 p.m. PT on the road at Multnomah.
