Coyotes Cruise to 3-Set Win Over Walla Walla

CALDWELL, Idaho – A big night by The College of Idaho underclassmen helped the Yotes remain unbeaten all-time against Walla Walla University, as the Yotes earned a 25-20, 25-16, 25-13 victory inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
 
The win for the Yotes (4-8, 1-3 CCC) snapped a 6-match losing streak, with C of I improving to 11-0 all-time against WWU.
 
C of I underclassmen combined for 39 of the 49 kills on the night, with the Coyotes adding nine aces and seven combined blocks.
 
The Wolves (0-5, 0-4) played tough in Set 1, using a 6-1 run, including two kills from Isabelle Gardea, to take a 15-13 lead. WWU would lead 19-17 after a C of I service error, but the Coyotes got three kills from Jade Warren in an 8-1 surge to claim the set win.
 
The Yotes bolted out to a 15-5 lead and cruised in Set 2, as Sydnee Steel had two of her team-high four aces and Brenna Hawkins added two blocks in the rally. C of I dominated Set 3, hitting at a .429 percentage, closing the match on a 13-3 run, keyed by three Emily Vandenberg kills.
 
Vandenberg led the Coyotes with 12 kills and nine digs, with Leyah de Souza adding 11 kills on 23 swings. Hawkins had a career-high nine kills and three blocks, Warren had seven kills on 10 swings and Chayla Slavin led the team with four blocks. Sidney Frith had 24 assists and eight digs, Steel had 19 assists and seven digs, with Masie Hancock posting 20 digs.
 
Gabrielle Browning led WWU with 10 kills, with both Anja Cole and Meherio Krainer each recording 10 assists.
 
C of I closes their 9-match homestand on Tuesday, hosting No. 15-ranked Eastern Oregon at 7 p.m.
