LOUISVILLE, Ky. – College of Idaho junior
Katelyn Wilfert and freshman
Kaily Christensen were named NFCA NAIA All-Region III selections on Friday.
Both were chosen as second-team picks after outstanding years that have helped spark C of I to the most wins in a season in school history.
Wilfert, a right-handed pitcher in her first year in the program, led the Yotes to a 4-2 win over Ottawa (Kan.) in the opener of the NAIA World Series yesterday and is 18-5 with a 2.01 ERA and 126 strikeouts in 139 1/3 innings of work this season. Wilfert, a Rocky Mountain High graduate, arrived at C of I after two years at Eastern Florida State.
Joining the dominant right-hander as a selection is Christensen, who has hit .376 with 17 doubles, a home run and 50 RBI in her first season at the collegiate level. The native of Woodland, Wash. has occupied the cleanup role in the batting lineup for the Yotes in 49 of the 60 games that the team has played this year.
The Yotes continue in the NAIA World Series with a winner's bracket matchup against the winner of Southern Oregon and Bethany (Kan.). First pitch is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. ET at the South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Ga.
Established in 1983, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play. Although collegiate coaches comprised the majority of the organization's membership in the early days, today they are joined by high school, travel ball, professional and international coaches, along with umpires, clubs, companies and fans of fastpitch softball. Growing from 40 members in 1983 to over 5,500 today, the NFCA boasts members from all 50 states and several international countries.
