CALDWELL, Idaho – Two second half goals lifted The College of Idaho to a 2-0 win over Providence on Sunday in the Cascade Conference opener for both sides at Simplot Stadium.
Despite not tallying a goal in the first half, the Yotes (2-2-1, 1-0 CCC) developed an offensive attack that totaled seven shots to go along with 11 corner kicks in the first 45 minutes.
The opportunities were capitalized on early in the second half, as
Cameron Coyle took the rebound off of a
Lexie Hibler cross that deflected off Argos (0-1, 0-1 CCC) keeper Dakota Neumann right in front of the net, driving a missile into the back-left corner for a goal in the 48th minute.
Shortly thereafter,
Chloe Teets created a similar opportunity by launching a shot from 38 yards out that wasn't corralled by Neumann, giving
Laura Staropoli a chance off the miss. Staropoli beat Neumann to the ball and fired in a strike as the two tumbled over each other, giving C of I a 2-0 advantage in the 59th minute.
In the net for the Yotes,
Shae Waters played the full 90 minutes and saved each of the Providence shots on frame to preserve the shutout.
C of I posted an impressive 16-2 advantage on shots in the win, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. The Yotes had 13 corners to none for the visitors.
Both teams return to Simplot Stadium tomorrow at 11 a.m. for another contest. The action can be viewed live on the Yotes Digital Network.
